We were recently sent a book to review by Boolino books. The brand new How do you do Mr Gnu? by Billy Coughlan and Maddie Frost is a bright picture book aimed at young children with fun and quirky illustrations.

The story follows My Gnu as he first receives an invitation to visit the Queen and then tries to learn some manners along the way from the various creatures he meets.

He picks up some interesting ideas along the way and has a very funny ending that will have small children roaring. My children are four and six and enjoyed the story, the story is aimed at 3-6 year olds but I think that my daughter, aged 6, prefers longer stories with more text, although this was perfect for her to read herself.

We found the book amusing and enjoyable and I really like the inclusion of some long words such as repertoire and exquisite as I am a huge word lover and like my children to hear lots of different words too.

The very bright and bold illustrations are great for captivating children too, there are some really funny bits to spot and I really like the way they have drawn the Gnu! The book will be available to buy here at the beginning of April.

  1. Oh this looks good, I love books that have big words in them, there’s nothing funnier than a two year old reciting ridiculous words!
