Recently we were asked to test out a new app called Ooks HQ where you play a story game and then the story you create can be turned into a lovely book which is available to purchase for £16.99. The app is free to download and play though, and is available on the Apple Store and Google Play.
Currently there is only one story available but there are loads of choices you make along the way which changes the outcome, making the story different each time. To start with, you create your Ook by selecting things like colour, mood and interests, there are so many different combinations to choose from to make your story hero look different each time too.
If you are happy with your character, you continue on into the story part of the app. There is a guide, (you will need to know his name to enter the competition!), and the story is both read aloud and written in speech bubbles on screen. You meet a whole host of different characters along the way, my favourite being the Tea-Rex of course, and they have a mix of British and American accents.
The app is very easy to navigate, you drag and drop your Ook around and land them on the green areas to move forward with the story. You make choices along the way, and there are also sections that require you to draw a part of the story, either freehand or using templates, these are then carefully added into the story, for example a hat that your character then wears throughout.
The graphics are fantastic, bright, colourful and clear and the app is so easy to use, I played it myself to get a feel for it and really enjoyed how smooth the drawing and moving around functions are. It’s so simple to navigate and the story is engaging and keeps you wanting to find out what happens especially as you can change the outcome by making different decisions along the way.
Your stories are saved in a bookcase for you to look back over and you can order a copy of your book to be delivered. You need to access the grown ups area to do so which needs a year of birth to get in.
To win yourself your very own Ook book, and also an IPad mini to play the app on as pictured above, enter the competition below.
