A holiday at home can be good

Lots of us are having a summer holiday at home at the moment and we have been looking for things to make it all just a little bit more special! This post contains affiliate links and items we were sent to review.

Games to play on a holiday at home

First up, games for our holiday at home! We’ve been loving these brilliant educational games from Orchard Toys. We have had great enjoyment over the years but I hadn’t realised that they had a large range for older children too. What A Performance has kept them busy playing on their own for hours!

Next we have Quirk. This has been a huge favourite with everyone and is compact enough to take away with us if we go on day trips.

Finally we discovered a classic but new to our family, Cluedo! We all loved it and it seemed to be the only board game that doesn’t end in an argument!

Picnics in the park or garden

These fab Smash lunch bags and water bottles come in a variety of designs and are the perfect size for a packed lunch to take over to the park or even to eat in the garden or the lounge (floor picnics are the best!) and will also be excellent for back to school.

Making story stones

We made some lovely story stones simply using rocks we found and these posca paint pens. Pick a few out of the bag and make up a story using the elements you selected! Can really keep kids occupied on a holiday at home! We also picked up paint your own pottery kits from Paint It Yourself Pottery Cheltenham which kept them really busy.

Reading a special book

I’ve been reading Harry Potter to my kids, it’s been such a lovely way to relive my childhood and watch them marvel at it for the first time.

Film nights for a holiday at home

Make a big bed on the floor, choose your film and make sure you have some popcorn to hand, you can make it easily enough in a pan but if you want to make it a real cinema experience there is always this fun gadget that also makes crêpes. £17.89 (price correct as of 8.8.20)

Just add water!

This is such a good way for helping my two when they’re grumpy. Things like a paddling pool, fun sprinkler or even a bath bomb spa day can turn the mood right around!
