I got really into running a few years back, even completing the Cheltenham half marathon just 7 months after starting. But then after an op, I really struggled to get back into it. I was recently convinced (somehow!) to sign up for an event that sounds purely torturous, 13 mile run punctuated with over 100 obstacles. Eek. So I’ve started running again and these are the things I’ve discovered that keep me lacing up my trainers week after week! Vitally important as it helps keep my anxiety in check as well.

The Athens Wireless headphones from Urbanista are perfect for running.
The Athens Sports wireless headphones come in a handy sleek case that charges them on the go.

First up, music. I’ve never been able to run with music before as headphones drive me absolutely potty, falling out constantly, getting caught on my arms and being yanked out and generally not fitting my ears well. But then I was sent the Urbanista Athens to try and oh my word, game changer! They come with several different sized silicone covers to ensure a perfect fit for any ear and they didn’t budge. I admit I was surprised, they have been for run after run with me and they don’t fall out at all. The sound quality is excellent and you can also use Siri and make and receive calls with them meaning they are perfect for hands free calls. It does make you look like you are talking to yourself when you’re walking around on the phone though! I’ve given these a really thorough testing and the battery life is brilliant in both the ear buds and the charging case and I would definitely buy them myself if I hadn’t been sent them. They’re also great for listening to podcasts whilst ironing. Usual price £119.00 but currently £95.20 with 20% off.*

Running gear in pretty spring colours.
Running is fun in this lovely Helly Hansen top

Next up, running wear. I’ve been trialling this gorgeous top from Helly Hansen (also kindly sent out for review) and it’s a lovely colour for spring and is a nice soft fabric with venting across the back to help regulate body temp. Plus it has thumb holes. I love it! They also do brilliant ski wear in some beautiful funky patterns. Currently £91.00*

I’ve been lusting after these lovely leggings from the fabulous Sara Da Silva. Everywhere I look nowadays, I see someone in her iconic leggings, raving about how good they are. Designed by Sara herself, they are apparently the most comfortable with a feature I’ve not come across in leggings before, a compression band around the waist to hold you in and ensure that you feel the most confident you can whilst working out. £65.00*

Running gear leggings in bright blues and turqouise.
Running Leggings £36.99* from the Tikiboo website.

I also bought myself a few pieces from Tikiboo as I’m a huge fan of bright colours and I like to look like a cheerful riot of colour as you pass me, even if I feel like a tomato about to expire! 😀

Although what you wear to run isn’t important, (although if you are doing it often I would highly recommend a gait analysis for the right trainers for you, to ensure that you don’t do yourself any damage if you are training frequently), it’s always nice to feel good as you run and for me, clothing can really help with that. And I’ve really enjoyed the experience of running with music after so long running without it. Although be very careful if you are an urban runner with a lot of roads to cross as we do rely more on our hearing when crossing roads then I’d realised. (That’s the Mum in me speaking!)
