As a family, we have really been trying to make greener choices around the home. We spend a lot of time out and about in nature and saving the planet is so important to us as it’s clear to see the damage that it being done. We have worked very hard on making changes to the way that we live to try and be as eco friendly as possible, and one of the ways we are trialling is the SaveMoneyCutCarbon new sustainable club. You sign up and pay monthly and in return you get to access an enormous array of sustainable swap out products for a much better price, the guarantee to be the cheapest way to buy the products. They also have an incredible amount of resources on the site to help guide you through what can be a fairly daunting experience for people, after all, it seems like such an impossible situation, it can feel overwhelming to try to tackle. I have been given a complimentary year’s subscription to trial the site.

You can end up thinking that really, what can one person, one family, recycling their plastic do to help? But stop there, I firmly believe that if we all make small changes, or big ones if we can, then, as a mass force, we can have a positive effect on the planet. It’s not about being eco perfect because that is simple an impossibility for the majority of us, but eco conscious. Using the site, you can really find everything you need to make changes to your daily life that are going to make changes to the planet. You can even find your new energy providers through them.
Simple Greener Choices
Here are just a few things you can do really simply that can make a big change in the long term.
- Look at those tiny household plastic items that you use almost without thinking about, from cotton buds and tooth brushes to cling film, bin bags and sponges, these are all things that can be replaced with greener alternatives found on the site.
- Change out your bulbs. Not only will this save you a fortune in the long run with LED bulbs lasting for years longer than conventional bulbs, it will also cut down your energy consumption dramatically.
- Swap your cleaning products. There are so many green alternatives that worked for many centuries before people decided they needed to buy a different product for each job and ones that have such a detrimental effect on plant, animal and sea life as well. You can buy one bottle and then just keep buying refills to really cut down on your single use plastic. Or make your own!
- Feeling flush? You will be if you add a water displacement bag to your cistern. It cuts down on the amount of water in each flush by 1 litre, resulting in an average saving of 4,800 litres per year in a household! This can really add up!
- If you wanted to go further and make some bigger changes, maybe you are doing some renovations or fitting a new bathroom, there are also taps, toilets and showers that are all designed to cut down on your consumption.

So there you have it, just a few of my ideas for greener choices you can make that will add up to a big change over the course of your lifetime if you keep it up, and really make a difference if you teach your children to do the same too. We can’t all invent a machine to clean the seas or develop a formula for turning plastic into nutritious plant food (the dream!) but we can all make a difference and our combined force can do some good.
For loads more tips and ideas, check out the SaveMoneyCutCarbon website and check out their club, it would make a great gift for someone too, especially those hard to buy for people who have everything they need and don’t want to create any more waste for the planet.
