Kit list for family adventures
Having the right gear is vital, this is our kit list for family adventures, the things that make our trips much more enjoyable and hassle free. We have just returned from an amazing holiday to Aberdyfi in Wales and we had some incredible adventures that included messing about in the river on a Stand Up Paddleboard, 4k hikes across the mountains and 10k walks on the beach. Not to mention some seriously extreme mountain biking, making coffee on a little wood burning stove by a stream and jumping off the jetty into the sea followed by a bbq breakfast and toasted marshmallows on the beach. The are things dreams are made of for kids right?
This is a paid collaboration with Safe and Sound.

When I was a child I was constantly up trees, building dens with a hammer and nails, riding my bike down too steep hills with no brakes, going on epic walks through the mountains with just my dog and running everywhere too quickly and I have the scarred knees to prove it! I want the same for my children. I’m the first to let them climb a tree and we are constantly going on adventures like the ones above.

First Aid for family adventures
This does mean that there can be some minor injuries, some scrapes and bruises along the way which is why I always come prepared. In my rucksack this trip were a mini first aid kit, including plasters and antiseptic spray from Safe and Sound Health. We also took their antibacterial hand foam everywhere and used it after every shop visit and before every meal. The fact that there were mermaid plasters seemed very fitting for a trip to the seaside!

What else is on the kit list for family adventures?
The other things I put on the kit list for family adventures are:
- Warm clothes for everyone (the weather can change so quickly!)
- Raincoats
- Water
- Snacks X a zillion
- Suncream and hats
And if we are hiking I’ll add to that:
- A map
- Battery pack for phone charging
- Torch
As long as you prepare, you can adventure safely, and for us as a family, scrapes and grazes are par for the course, as long as you clean the wound well and cover it if needs be, you will be amazed at how quickly kids heal!

Why I let my kids get hurt
As much as I would love to protect my kids from everything, I also believe that a huge part of learning is through doing and so if that involves a small burn on a finger from learning to make a fire, or a scrape from a barnacle climbing out of the sea, I consider it a small price to pay for a valuable life skill and a whole lot of fun. Also, with Safe and Sound Health, you can very quickly and easily deal with it!

How to adventure safely with the right kit
I always say that preparation is everything, whether it’s something to sit on at the beach, a warm jumper for a chilly breeze, an extra snack (or five!) to get them up the hill or a plaster for a graze, having the right kit makes for a much more enjoyable experience. We are very often off on trips in the van too and a good first aid kit is essential, I’ll now be adding the Safe and Sound Health products to that because I was genuinely really impressed with the quality. After all, the older they get, I’m sure bigger the adventures will get!
